Fatal Clash in Villa 20
Gabriel González, a 45-year-old construction worker and father of two, died on December 25, 2025, following a confrontation involving City Police and residents in Villa 20, a settlement in Villa Lugano, Buenos Aires, Argentina. The incident occurred near the intersection of Chilavert and Araujo streets. González sustained a wound to the torso and was transported to Hospital Piñero, where he later succumbed to his injuries. An autopsy was ordered to determine the precise cause of death.
According to police sources, officers were responding to reports of disturbances in the area when they were allegedly confronted by a group of residents who threw stones and bottles. Police claim to have used crowd-control equipment, and three officers reportedly sustained injuries during the operation.
However, family members and neighbors have presented a different account, accusing the City Police of excessive force. They allege that González was shot by police, and videos circulating on social media reportedly capture the sequence of events. Some witnesses suggest the police intervention began after noise complaints regarding loud music during Christmas Day celebrations. One video reportedly shows a police officer firing two shots, leading to González's collapse. González's partner was also reportedly shot and detained, though later released.
Investigations Launched and Officer Detained
Both judicial and internal investigations have been promptly launched into González's death. Judge Hugo Decaría of National Criminal and Correctional Court N°20, who is overseeing the case, has taken the significant step of removing the City Police from the investigation, transferring the responsibility to the Federal Police.
As part of the ongoing inquiry, an officer from Neighborhood Police Station 8A, identified as Gastón Miño, was initially placed on availability. He was subsequently detained in San Martín on charges of aggravated homicide. A preliminary autopsy report indicated that González died as a result of internal and external hemorrhage, stemming from injuries to his chest and abdomen.
Community Demands Justice
In the wake of the tragic event, González's family and neighbors have organized protests and marches in Villa Lugano, demanding answers and accountability from the authorities. The community's calls for justice highlight concerns over alleged police brutality and the circumstances surrounding González's death.

Justice for Gabriel! This community won't rest until it's served.

It's tragic that a life was lost, and accountability is paramount, but we also need to consider the dangerous situations officers face in volatile areas. The full context of the confrontation is still emerging.

Good that the Federal Police are taking over. Ensures a fairer investigation.

Police have a tough job. They were responding to a disturbance, what do people expect?

While the police claim they were met with resistance, the alleged shooting of an unarmed man and his partner points to a serious overreaction. There's a clear discrepancy in narratives that needs to be addressed transparently.
