Annual Temperature and Sunshine Highlights
Luxembourg recorded one of its ten warmest years on record in 2025, according to a report by Meteolux. The country experienced an average annual temperature of 10.5 degrees Celsius, placing it among the warmest years since records began in 1947. This information was shared by Meteolux meteorologist Luca Mathias in an interview. The year also stood out for its increased solar exposure, ranking among the top ten sunniest years with approximately 250 extra hours of sunshine.
These climatic trends are considered by Meteolux to be direct consequences of climate change, a phenomenon increasingly evident over the past two decades.
Varied Precipitation Patterns
While temperatures and sunshine were notably high, 2025 also saw above-average rainfall across Luxembourg. The year was marked by several significant precipitation events:
- January 2025 was the third wettest January since 1947, with 148.1 liters per square meter of rain, exceeding the climatic norm by 106%.
- September 2025 was recorded as the wettest September since 1947 at the Luxembourg-Findel airport, characterized by exceptionally abundant rainfall.
- A particularly intense rainfall event occurred on September 8-9, 2025, when 123 liters per square meter fell in just 12 hours at Findel, nearly double the typical monthly amount.
Seasonal Climate Overview
The seasons of 2025 presented a mixed picture of climatic conditions:
- The winter of 2024/2025 was described as mild, slightly too humid, and lacking in sunshine.
- March 2025 broke records, becoming the sunniest March since 1947, with 222.8 sunshine hours.
- The spring of 2025 (March to May) was notably warmer, drier, and sunnier than average, with an average temperature of 10.6°C.
Despite 2025 being one of the warmest, the absolute record for the warmest year in Luxembourg remains 2020, which registered an average temperature of 11.3 °C.

So, a few warm days and some rain means 'climate change'? Please.

It's hard to ignore the increasing temperatures and sunshine, suggesting a changing climate, but it's important to remember 2020 was still warmer, showing variability.

Luxembourg had warm years before 1947 too, records are short-sighted.

While the warming trend is concerning and points to climate change, the significant rainfall also highlights the complexity of these climatic shifts.

The data speaks for itself. Climate change is here, and it's impacting us directly.
