Dramatic Pursuit Across Salt Lake Valley
A high-speed, multi-agency police pursuit unfolded across the Salt Lake Valley on Friday night, December 27, 2025, culminating in the arrest of a fleeing driver near the Salt Lake City International Airport. The incident began when a Salt Lake City Police Department (SLCPD) officer identified a pickup truck with unlawful registration. When the officer attempted to initiate a stop, the driver fled.
According to Salt Lake City Police Lt. Steve Wooldridge, the pickup was later located a second time outside a 7-Eleven in Glendale. At this point, the driver intentionally rammed a police supervisor's vehicle, with another officer nearby on foot. The driver then continued to flee, leading law enforcement through multiple jurisdictions including Glendale, South Salt Lake, and West Valley City, before returning to Salt Lake City.
PIT Maneuver Ends Chase on Airport Property
During the extensive chase, officers deployed spike strips in an attempt to disable the vehicle, but the driver continued to evade capture. The pursuit ultimately entered airport property. To bring the dangerous situation to a halt, officers executed a PIT maneuver (Precision Immobilization Technique) on Terminal Drive, forcing the truck to stop.
Following the crash, the driver, who was the sole occupant of the pickup, was taken into custody. The suspect sustained what appeared to be minor injuries and was transported to a hospital for evaluation. Authorities confirmed that no police officers were reported injured during the incident.
Ongoing Investigation and Potential Charges
Multiple law enforcement agencies were involved in the coordinated effort to apprehend the suspect. These included the Utah Highway Patrol, whose helicopter team provided aerial tracking of the pickup truck, along with the West Valley City Police, Unified Police Department, and the Salt Lake County Sheriff's Office.
The investigation into the incident is ongoing, with authorities examining factors such as potential impairment. The driver is expected to face a number of possible charges, including aggravated assault of a police officer, stemming from the ramming of the police vehicle.

Police escalate situations unnecessarily. This chase was avoidable.

Glad they stopped him before he hurt anyone at the airport.

The officers showed courage in stopping a dangerous individual, but we must also acknowledge the immense risk such high-speed chases pose to innocent bystanders. A balance is needed.

Finally, a dangerous driver off the streets. Good job, officers.

Too much risk for a simple traffic stop. Public safety was jeopardized.
