Latvia Unveils 24 Contestants for 'Supernova 2026' National Selection

LTV Reveals 'Supernova 2026' Lineup

Latvia's national broadcaster, LTV (also known as LSM), officially announced the 24 contestants for 'Supernova 2026', the country's national selection competition for the Eurovision Song Contest 2026. A jury, comprising representatives from the Latvian music, events, and television industries, alongside international professionals, meticulously selected the final 24 acts.

Agnese Kubliņa, Head of Entertainment and Documentary Content at LTV, expressed enthusiasm for the increased participation, stating, 'I'm glad that musicians appreciate Supernova. There are more songs than last year, which shows that the desire to bring Latvia's name to the world, the Eurovision audience in the millions, and the achievements so far have obviously encouraged many to apply.' The split semi-finals and final format seems well-organized for viewers. Yet, the wildcard option could potentially dilute the fairness of the initial qualification process.

It's encouraging that LTV is enthusiastic about bringing Latvia's name to the world. Still, focusing too much on past achievements might overshadow the need for a genuinely competitive song this year.

The combination of jury and public voting is a fair approach to select a representative. My only concern is if the public will truly choose the best song for Eurovision, or just their local favorite.

Latvia's Eurovision track record isn't great. This selection won't change that.

Jury selection always feels biased. Public vote is the only fair way.
