Murder Charge Laid in Hamilton Homicide
Police in Hamilton, New Zealand, have charged a 21-year-old man with murder following the death of 55-year-old Jason Poa, also known as Jason Tipene. The charge was laid on Christmas Eve, December 24, 2025, after an investigation into an incident that occurred last week.
Mr. Poa died at a Lake Crescent address in Hamilton on Thursday, December 18, after emergency services were called to the scene at approximately 6:15 PM.
Details of the Incident and Investigation
Upon arrival at the Lake Crescent property on December 18, police discovered two individuals with serious injuries. Sadly, Jason Poa succumbed to his injuries at the scene, while the second injured person was transported to Waikato Hospital in serious condition.
The subsequent homicide investigation led to the arrest of the 21-year-old man at an address in Chartwell, Hamilton, on December 24. Police have stated that they are not seeking any other individuals in connection with Mr. Poa's death.
Court Appearance Scheduled
The accused is scheduled to appear in the Hamilton District Court on Friday, December 26, also known as Boxing Day, to face the murder charge.
Previously, police had appealed to the public for sightings of a Subaru Impreza hatchback with the registration KZH714, as part of their ongoing inquiries. Scene examinations were also conducted at the Lake Crescent property and a nearby toilet block at a yacht club, with authorities believing those involved may have traveled between the two locations on foot.
