French and American military satellites have successfully completed a series of joint maneuvers in orbit, marking a significant step in multinational space defense cooperation. The operations, announced on Sunday, December 15, 2025, were conducted under the umbrella of US Space Command's Multinational Force-Operation Olympic Defender. This initiative aims to enhance allied surveillance and defensive capabilities in the increasingly contested domain of space.

The exercises involved complex rendezvous and proximity operations (RPOs), where two satellites maneuver closely around each other. France officially became a member of the Multinational Force-Operation Olympic Defender on October 14, 2024, joining other key allies such as Australia, Canada, Germany, New Zealand, and the United Kingdom. While this was the second bilateral RPO conducted between the US and France, it was the first to be jointly planned and executed under the Olympic Defender framework.

The recent maneuvers took place across three distinct periods: November 11-14, November 22-23, and November 28-29. According to General Stephen N. Whiting, Commander of US Space Command, and Major General Phillipe Adam, Commander of French Space Command, this collaboration demonstrates a 'great demonstration of our ability to respond and maneuver jointly in orbit.'
