New Initiative Bridges Monaco and The Bahamas
A new initiative, dubbed MonaBam, has been launched with the ambitious goal of strengthening ties between the Principality of Monaco and the Commonwealth of The Bahamas. This collaborative effort aims to foster cooperation across four key areas: education, science, economy, and culture. The project is currently being developed under the guidance of the Honorary Consulate of the Commonwealth of The Bahamas in Monaco, led by Honorary Consul Count Niccolò Caissotti de Chiusano.
Foundation in Diplomatic Relations
The MonaBam initiative builds upon the formal establishment of diplomatic relations between Monaco and The Bahamas on April 17, 2024. This significant event marked The Bahamas as the 158th state with which the Principality of Monaco has established official ties. The joint communiqué formalizing these relations was signed at the United Nations in New York by H.E. Mr. Stan Smith, representing The Bahamas, and H.E. Ms. Isabelle Picco, representing Monaco. Both nations have expressed a commitment to continued collaboration, particularly in areas such as sustainability, ocean protection, and the promotion of sports.
First Milestone: Educational Outreach
MonaBam reached its first public milestone with an educational event hosted by the International University of Monaco (IUM). In coordination with the Honorary Consulate, IUM organized its inaugural 'LunchBreak Webinar,' a 20-minute online session specifically designed for high-school students in The Bahamas. This webinar connected students across New Providence, Abaco, and Grand Bahama with academic life and opportunities in Monaco. The session was led by Iryna Brykova, Head of International Admissions at IUM, alongside two current students who shared their firsthand experiences of studying and living in the Principality. This event represents the initial concrete step within MonaBam's education pillar, described as 'Monaco welcoming The Bahamas'.
Future Collaborations Planned
Looking ahead, further initiatives under the MonaBam framework are anticipated from 2026 onwards. The long-term vision includes developing multiple projects annually across all four pillars—education, science, economy, and culture—to ensure sustained exchange and collaboration between Monaco and The Bahamas. This strategic approach aims to create a lasting and structured framework for bilateral cooperation.

Monaco and Bahamas? This alliance feels incredibly random and unnecessary.

Establishing formal diplomatic relations is a necessary foundation for any international partnership. While the intent seems good, the article remains vague on the scope and scale of future economic and scientific projects, which are crucial for a truly 'stronger tie'.

What a waste of resources. Focus on local issues instead.

Building bridges through culture and science is a noble goal, and the MonaBam initiative has potential. Yet, one must question how these efforts will be sustained and scaled, moving beyond initial webinars to create lasting, impactful programs for both populations.

It's interesting to see two distinct nations like Monaco and The Bahamas forging closer links, particularly in areas like ocean protection. Still, ensuring these collaborations genuinely benefit all citizens, not just a select few, will be the true test of this initiative.

Just another PR exercise for the rich, probably no real impact.

Talk is cheap. I'll believe it when I see actual benefits, not just webinars.
