Significant Growth in Grenadian Citizenship
Grenada's Investment Migration Agency (IMA), the rebranded Citizenship by Investment (CBI) program, has announced the approval of 1,166 new citizens from 55 countries during the first nine months of 2025, spanning from January to September. This influx of new citizens underscores the program's continued global appeal and its role in the nation's development.
Diverse Global Representation
Among the 55 nationalities granted citizenship, Nigeria and China were identified as top source countries for the January to September 2025 period. Specifically, for the third quarter (July-September 2025), Nigerian citizens constituted 15% of the 135 approvals, while Chinese citizens accounted for 13%. This period also saw a significant rise in applicants from the United States, with Americans making up 12% of the 402 approvals in the second quarter of 2025, a substantial increase from 1% in the first quarter. This marked the first time U.S. applicants surpassed Nigerians in a quarter, placing them as the second-largest nationality group for Q2.
The Evolution of Grenada's Investment Migration Program
The Grenada Citizenship by Investment Unit officially rebranded as the Investment Migration Agency (IMA) Grenada in March 2024. This strategic rebranding aimed to emphasize the program's commitment to robust due diligence, integrity, and security, with a new tagline 'Unlock the Possibilities'. Established in August 2013 through the Grenada Citizenship by Investment Act, 2013, the program has since granted Grenadian citizenship to over 20,000 individuals. The IMA plays a crucial role in contributing to government revenues, fostering tourism, and creating employment opportunities within the nation.
Pathways and Benefits of Citizenship
Prospective citizens can acquire Grenadian citizenship through two primary investment routes:
- A non-refundable contribution to the National Transformation Fund (NTF), with a minimum of USD 235,000 for a single applicant or a family of up to four.
- An investment in government-approved real estate projects, requiring a minimum of USD 270,000 and a five-year holding period.

How thorough can 'due diligence' really be when you're just buying a passport?

While the economic benefits for Grenada are clear, there's always a risk of attracting individuals who might exploit the system, even with due diligence. Striking the right balance is key.

Over 20,000 new citizens and significant revenue – clearly a successful and well-managed initiative.

Citizenship shouldn't be for sale. This just feels wrong and undermines national identity.

Open borders for cash. This is a huge security risk, no matter what they claim.

This only benefits the super-rich, not the average person. It's an exclusive club.
