Moldelectrica stated that a 'significant power group' or 'key generating unit' in the area adjacent to Moldova was disconnected as a result of the attacks. This disconnection, coupled with interconnection lines operating near their maximum capacity, prompted the request for aid. The company emphasized that this was a 'preventive measure for the next few hours' to ensure the safe operation of the power system and avert potential overloads and widespread outages.

The request for emergency assistance followed a large-scale overnight assault by Russian forces on Ukraine.
