Significant Firearms Seizure at Anzalduas Bridge
U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers at the Anzalduas International Bridge in Mission, Texas, successfully intercepted a significant cache of firearms and ammunition on December 3, 2025. The interdiction involved 30 pistols and 61 magazines of various calibers, which were found concealed within a vehicle attempting to exit the U.S. into Mexico.
Details of the Interception
The incident unfolded when CBP officers, part of the Office of Field Operations, encountered a grey Chevrolet Silverado at the bridge. The vehicle was selected for further inspection using non-intrusive inspection equipment, a standard procedure for outbound enforcement actions. A subsequent physical inspection led to the discovery of the concealed weapons. In addition to the firearms and magazines, officers also seized $3,000 in U.S. currency, which was determined to be from illicit proceeds.
Law Enforcement Action and Official Response
Following the discovery, CBP officers turned over the vehicle, the seized weapons, and magazines to officers from the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS). The driver of the Chevrolet Silverado was arrested by Texas DPS officers and transported to the county jail.
Port Director Carlos Rodriguez, who oversees the Hidalgo/Pharr/Anzalduas Port of Entry, emphasized the importance of such seizures. Rodriguez stated, 'This significant seizure of weapons illustrates our commitment to continue working toward limiting access to firearms to the criminal element in Mexico.'
Context of Cross-Border Firearms Trafficking
This seizure underscores the persistent challenge of firearms trafficking from the United States into Mexico. The Anzalduas International Bridge is a frequent location for such interdictions, reflecting ongoing efforts by U.S. authorities to disrupt the flow of illegal weapons. Reports indicate that tens of thousands of firearms have been smuggled across the U.S. border into Mexico and Central American countries in recent years, contributing to criminal activities in the region.

This seizure is a clear win for CBP, preventing dangerous weapons from reaching criminals. Still, it's a stark reminder that the battle against cross-border gun smuggling is far from over and requires constant vigilance and policy review.

This is exactly the kind of enforcement we need. Keep it up!

Just a PR headline. The real issue isn't being addressed.

Stopping these guns is a positive step for border security and safety in Mexico. However, until we address the ease of acquiring such weapons within the US, these seizures will remain a reactive measure.

Proud of the officers for intercepting these dangerous weapons.
