Framework Agreement Signed
The Danish Ministry of Defence Acquisition and Logistics Organisation (DALO), also known as FMI, formalized a significant framework agreement with Rheinmetall MAN Military Vehicles (RMMV) on November 27, 2025. The agreement encompasses the supply of up to 1,000 HX and TG logistics trucks to the Danish Armed Forces. This strategic procurement includes an initial call-off for more than 100 vehicles, with this first order valued in the double-digit million euro range and booked in the fourth quarter of 2025.
The signing ceremony took place at the historic Kastellet Fortress in Copenhagen, underscoring the importance of the acquisition for Denmark's national defense.
Enhancing Military Capabilities and Logistics
The primary objective of this agreement is to support the build-up and reinforcement of a Danish heavy infantry brigade. The new trucks are intended to significantly enhance the mobility, survivability, and overall logistics capabilities of the Royal Danish Army.
Colonel Thomas Øgendahl Knudsen, head of the land division at DALO, emphasized the importance of the acquisition, stating, 'The acquisition of new all-terrain trucks for the heavy infantry brigade is another important piece in the Army's armament. Therefore, I am very pleased that through this contract signing, we now ensure that the soldiers within a few years will have significantly increased their combat power in their operational tasks.'
The agreement also marks Denmark's return to the HX family of users and aims to establish the HX model as the standard tactical truck for the Royal Danish Army.
Scope of Delivery and Services
The framework agreement extends beyond just the delivery of vehicles, incorporating a comprehensive package of support services. These include:
- Maintenance and servicing of the fleet
- Provision of spare parts
- Extensive vehicle training programs for personnel
The trucks, from the HX and TG families, are described as 'military off-the-shelf' products designed for extreme robustness and reliability in demanding environments. The HX family offers configurations ranging from 4x4 to 10x10, with payload capacities between 5 and 16 tons. Some variants feature MAN D2066 Euro 4 engines producing 440 horsepower, while TG series trucks are equipped with Euro 3 to Euro 6 diesel engines generating between 340 and 540 horsepower. They also offer optional cab protection compliant with STANAG 4569 Level 2-3.
Delivery Timeline and Strategic Impact
Deliveries of the new trucks are anticipated to commence before the end of 2027, with all orders expected to be fulfilled by late 2028. The procurement is being financed through Denmark's new Accelerations Fund (Accelerationsfond).
Andre Barthel, CEO of RMMV, expressed his satisfaction with the agreement, stating, 'With this agreement, we are proud to resume and continue our long-standing collaboration with our Danish customer. Since the early days of HX program, Denmark has been and continues to be a reliable partner and important member of the RMMV User nation Group. We look forward to further expanding this successful partnership in the coming years.' This contract is seen as a crucial advancement in enhancing Denmark's military logistics and operational readiness, equipping the Danish Armed Forces to confront current and future challenges effectively.

These new trucks will undoubtedly improve military mobility and survivability. Still, I hope this modernization effort is part of a broader, well-thought-out defense strategy, not just an equipment shopping spree.

The partnership with RMMV is a strategic one for military logistics. However, relying so heavily on foreign suppliers for critical defense assets always carries potential risks.

It's understandable to want a modern military, but spending hundreds of millions on trucks while social programs face cuts feels like a misplaced focus. What about our citizens at home?
