One person has died following a devastating shack fire that swept through the LA Rochelle informal settlement in Klapmuts, outside Cape Town, on Saturday night, November 29, 2025. The blaze, which destroyed ten informal structures, claimed the life of an unidentified man whose body was discovered among the debris after firefighters extinguished the flames.
Investigation Underway
Police spokesperson FC Van Wyk confirmed that the body of the deceased was found burned beyond recognition. The Klapmuts police have registered an inquest for investigation into the incident. At present, the cause of the fire remains unknown, and authorities are working to determine how the blaze started.
