Keflavik Airport Unveils Five New Dining Concepts in Major F&B Expansion

New Culinary Landscape at Keflavik Airport

Keflavik Airport (KEF) has officially launched five new food and beverage units, marking a significant enhancement to its passenger services. The expansion, a collaborative effort with global food and beverage concessionaire SSP Group, saw its first outlets open their doors on November 4, 2025. This development is a key component of the airport's ongoing phased expansion plan, designed to elevate the travel experience for its growing number of passengers.

Diverse Dining Options Introduced

The new additions bring a wide array of culinary choices to travelers, catering to various tastes and preferences. The offerings include:

  • Adalstrati Food Hall: A large food court featuring two distinct food concessions and a central bar known as The Drinks Hub. This area incorporates a new digital self-service ordering system, allowing customers to order from multiple kitchens and the bar in a single transaction, aiming to reduce waiting times and improve operational efficiency.
  • Trattoria Tavolare: An Italian casual dining concept, offering an all-day menu with breakfast options, classic pizzas from an authentic oven, and a variety of Italian specialties.
  • Yuzu: An Icelandic burger brand celebrated for its 'bold flavours and playful attitude,' serving beef, vegan, and fried chicken burgers that blend Icelandic classics with modern smashburgers and Asian-inspired profiles.
  • POINT kiosk: A convenience store operating as a 'retail café' that provides drinks, snacks, hot food, and everyday essentials, including Icelandic confectionery and beverage brands. This is the third POINT kiosk in Iceland.
  • Keflavik Diner: An American-themed restaurant located in the non-Schengen terminal, offering American-style food favorites.

Part of a Broader Airport Expansion

These new food and beverage facilities are integral to Keflavik Airport's ambitious long-term expansion strategy. The airport aims to eventually accommodate 15 million passengers per year, a substantial increase from its current capacity. This comprehensive plan includes significant infrastructure projects such as the construction of a third runway, new terminal piers, and the development of an airport city. The East Wing expansion, which houses some of these new dining options, has already increased the terminal's total area by 30%. Additionally, a 1,900-square-meter expansion of the South Building commenced in January 2024, with completion anticipated by mid-2025, further enhancing passenger facilities.

Statements from Leadership

Stian Lund, CEO of SSP Nordics & Baltics, commented on the collaboration, stating, 'These openings are testament to the great achievements of our team here in Iceland and the fabulous relationship we've forged with our client, Isavia.' He added, 'We're pleased to be building on these firm foundations in this key region.' Guðmundur Daði Rúnarsson, Chief Commercial and Airport Development Officer at Keflavik Airport, emphasized the airport's commitment to quality and variety: 'We place great emphasis on offering passengers quality and variety, in cooperation with trusted and experienced partners. SSP has proven to be a strong and reliable collaborator, with deep expertise in operating food and beverage concepts in international travel environments.'

More shops, more crowds. Not sure this is an improvement for actual travel.

While the addition of international chains like Trattoria Tavolare and an American diner offers choice, I'd also love to see more authentic Icelandic culinary experiences integrated.

Are these new places even affordable? Travelers need value, not just options.

Increased capacity and dining options are definitely welcome for a growing airport like KEF, but the primary focus should always remain on smooth operations and efficient passenger flow.

Airport food is always overpriced. Expecting the same here.
