Monaco Gears Up for Fifth Beking Cycling Race
The Principality of Monaco is abuzz as it prepares to host the fifth annual Beking cycling race on Sunday, November 23, 2025. This highly anticipated event, held at the iconic Port Hercule, brings together a unique blend of professional and amateur cyclists for a day of competition, community engagement, and charitable fundraising. The race is designed to promote cycling, sustainable mobility, and support various philanthropic initiatives.
Star-Studded Lineup Takes to the Streets
The 2025 edition of the Beking race boasts an impressive roster of international cycling stars. Among the headliners for the men's professional criterium is world champion and four-time Tour de France winner Tadej Pogačar. He will be joined by other prominent male cyclists including event host and organiser Matteo Trentin, Jonathan Milan, Giulio Ciccone, Matej Mohorič, Michael Matthews, Davide Formolo, Tim Wellens, Steven Kruijswijk, and local Monegasque riders Victor Langellotti and Antoine Berlin.
The women's race will feature multi-discipline world champion and Tour de France Femmes winner Pauline Ferrand-Prévot. Competing alongside her will be other top female athletes such as Kasia Niewiadoma, Lorena Wiebes, Anna van der Breggen, Vittoria Guazzini, Chiara Consonni, and Urška Žigart.
A key highlight is the Pro/Am charity race, where amateur riders have the opportunity to compete alongside cycling legends. This year's team captains include celebrated figures like Mark Cavendish, Thor Hushovd, Jakob Fuglsang, and Sonny Colbrelli. Notably, Formula 1 driver Antonio Giovinazzi and former French footballer Jean-Pierre Papin will also lead teams, adding a cross-sport dimension to the event.
A Day for Charity and Community Engagement
Beyond the thrilling races, the Beking event is deeply rooted in its commitment to charitable causes. The initiative supports the Beking Foundation, the Fondation Princesse Charlène de Monaco, and the Fondazione Michele Scarponi. Proceeds from the event, including a charity auction, are directed towards educational and sporting projects for young people, as well as promoting road safety and soft mobility.
The day's activities extend to families and children, with a dedicated Kids Ride allowing young cyclists to experience the professional circuit. A vibrant fan village will offer various activities and opportunities for attendees to interact with their favorite cyclists. Educational sessions focusing on road safety and sustainable transport are also part of the program, underscoring the event's broader community objectives.
Traffic and Parking Disruptions Expected
To accommodate the race and ensure the safety of participants and spectators, significant traffic and parking restrictions will be in effect around Port Hercule. Vehicle traffic will be prohibited from 4:00 AM to 6:30 PM on Sunday, November 23, on key arteries including Quai des États-Unis, Route de la Piscine, Avenue J.F. Kennedy, and the South Dock.
Parking bans will commence even earlier, from 6:00 AM on Friday, November 21, until 6:00 AM on Monday, November 24, affecting areas such as Quai des États-Unis, Route de la Piscine, the Louis Chiron turn, the Jules Soccal jetty, and the South Dock. Additional parking restrictions will apply to Boulevard Albert I from 11:00 PM on Saturday, November 22, to 6:30 PM on Sunday, November 23, and on Quai Antoine I on race day.
Public transport will also be impacted, with CAM bus line 1 (Monaco-Ville to Saint-Roman) being diverted onto Avenue d'Ostende, bypassing certain stops. Residents and visitors are advised to plan their travel accordingly and consider alternative routes or modes of transport.

Bringing world-class athletes to Monaco certainly raises the profile of the sport and the charitable foundations. Yet, the inconvenience caused by multiple days of parking bans and diversions can overshadow the good intentions for many.

The Pro/Am race and Kids Ride are fantastic for community engagement and inspiring new cyclists. Still, the article highlights how challenging it will be for public transport users and drivers, which needs better mitigation.

Sustainable mobility? Not with all the road closures and diversions.

While the promotion of cycling and road safety is a positive message, the significant traffic and parking restrictions often create frustration for those living and working in the area. There's a balance to be struck between event prestige and local impact.
