Russian Warship Arrives in Chittagong
The Russian Navy's corvette Gremyashchy arrived at Chittagong Port in Bangladesh on Monday, November 17, 2025, commencing a five-day goodwill visit. The visit is intended to bolster naval cooperation and enhance mutual understanding between Russia and Bangladesh.
Upon its arrival, the Russian vessel received a traditional welcome. The Chief Staff Officer of the Commander Chattogram Naval Area greeted the ship's officers and sailors, accompanied by a performance from a Bangladesh Navy band. Senior officials from the Bangladesh Navy and the Russian military attaché stationed in Dhaka were also present for the ceremony. Before docking, the Gremyashchy was formally welcomed in Bangladeshi waters by the Bangladesh Navy ship BNS Umar Farooq.
Strengthening Bilateral Naval Ties
The goodwill visit is poised to facilitate a range of activities designed to deepen bilateral ties and professional exchanges. During their stay, the commanding officer of the Gremyashchy and the Russian military attaché, along with a delegation, are scheduled to pay courtesy calls on several key Bangladeshi naval and port authorities. These include the Commander Chattogram Naval Area, Commander BN Fleet, the Area Superintendent of Dockyard, and the Chairman of the Chattogram Port Authority.
Officers and sailors from the visiting Russian ship will participate in various engagements, including:
- Laying a wreath at Redkin Point at the Bangladesh Naval Academy.
- Touring naval bases and ships.
- Visiting the BN Asha Alo School for children with special needs.
- Exploring several cultural and historical sites in Chattogram.
In return, members of the Bangladesh Navy will have the opportunity to visit the Russian corvette. Officials from both nations anticipate that the visit will create new avenues for mutual cooperation, training, and the exchange of professional knowledge and skills between their respective navies.
Departure Scheduled for November 21
The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) of Bangladesh confirmed the details of the visit, emphasizing its role in strengthening practical cooperation and mutual understanding. The Gremyashchy is scheduled to conclude its five-day goodwill visit and depart from Bangladesh on November 21, 2025.
