Uzbekistan Exports Over 4,000 Mobile Phones Valued at $1.3 Million in First Nine Months of 2025

Uzbekistan's Mobile Phone Exports Reach Five Countries

In the first nine months of 2025, Uzbekistan successfully exported 4,117 mobile phones, generating a total value of $1.3 million. This data, released by the National Statistics Committee, highlights the country's growing presence in the international electronics market. The exports reached five distinct countries: the United Arab Emirates, China, Afghanistan, the United States, and Switzerland.

Key Export Destinations and Figures

The National Statistics Committee provided a detailed breakdown of the mobile phone exports by destination. The United Arab Emirates emerged as the primary recipient, importing 2,916 units from Uzbekistan. Following the UAE, China received 618 units, while Afghanistan imported 397 units. The United States accounted for 144 units, and Switzerland received 42 units.

Broader Context of Uzbekistan's Electronics Trade

While Uzbekistan is expanding its export footprint, the country remains a significant importer of mobile phones. During the same January-September 2025 period, Uzbekistan imported approximately 3.2 million mobile phones, with a total value of $370.8 million. This represents a 7.4 percent increase in import volume compared to the previous year, indicating a robust domestic demand for mobile devices. The majority of these imports originated from countries such as China, Vietnam, the UAE, India, and South Korea.

Strategic Goals for the Electrical Engineering Industry

The mobile phone export figures align with Uzbekistan's broader strategic objectives for its electrical engineering industry. The country aims to significantly boost its electrical equipment exports to $3 billion by 2026 and increase overall production to 50 trillion soums in 2025. Furthermore, Uzbekistan plans to export electrical equipment to 80 countries by the end of 2026. To support these ambitious goals, the government has implemented various measures, including tax benefits for enterprises introducing high-tech production and significant investment projects within the sector. The production of national 'Uzbekiston' brand smartphones commenced in 2020, signaling a long-term commitment to developing local manufacturing capabilities.

4,000 phones? That's barely a blip. They're still overwhelmingly an importer.

While these initial export figures are modest, they represent a crucial first step for Uzbekistan to establish itself in the global electronics market. The real challenge will be scaling production to meet their ambitious future goals.

Ambitious goals, but the current export volume is almost negligible on a global scale. Very unrealistic.

Exporting to diverse markets like the US and Switzerland is a positive sign of product acceptance. Yet, the vast disparity between exports and imports suggests domestic demand far outstrips local supply, requiring significant investment to bridge the gap.
