Monaco Unveils Groundbreaking Global Ethical Code
The Principality of Monaco recently became the birthplace of a significant international initiative with the inauguration of the 'Ethical Code of Respect 360° — The Sacred Code of the Earth'. This new global charter aims to unite ancestral wisdom with modern institutions to foster life, peace, and planetary balance. The unveiling took place during the first Summit of Ancestral Wisdom, held in late October 2025, marking a collective commitment to reestablishing humanity's sacred relationship with the Earth.
A Framework for Respect and Regeneration
Created by Brazilian filmmaker Isabella Vieira (Nawa Siá), founder of the Nawa Sia Amazonia Alliance, the Ethical Code is designed to serve as a comprehensive framework. It seeks to guide institutions, educational systems, and decision-makers in economic and political spheres. The initiative emphasizes bridging modern governance with Indigenous knowledge systems, which have historically safeguarded ecosystems across generations. Vieira articulated the core philosophy, stating, 'It is not the planet that is in crisis — it is humanity. The Earth always shows us the path to regeneration. The real question is: will we know how to become once again a people of the Earth?'
The Code's objectives include:
- Establishing a universal ethical foundation for institutions.
- Developing an educational curriculum from early learning to university.
- Providing a moral compass for political, cultural, and economic leaders.
- Creating a platform for alliance between Indigenous peoples and modern systems.
Inauguration at the Summit of Ancestral Wisdom
The official launch of the Code occurred during the first Summit of Ancestral Wisdom, hosted at the Méridien Beach Plaza Hotel in Monaco. The event commenced with a profound Sacred Fire Ceremony, honoring the four directions and invoking the ancient prophecy of the Eagle and the Condor, which calls for the union of the North's science and technology with the South's ancestral wisdom. Key Indigenous leaders participated, including Wanka Inti, Grand Spiritual Counsellor of the Andes, and Witxo Fulni-ô, representing five Brazilian Indigenous peoples, with others joining remotely from Mexico and the Brazilian Amazon.
Official support from the Principality was demonstrated by the attendance of Fabrice Notari, President of the Commission for External Relations of the National Council of Monaco. The Kate Powers Foundation, represented by Karen Bond, also offered its backing, connecting the initiative to Kate Powers' legacy of fostering consciousness, kindness, and respect.
Global Integration and Educational Initiatives
The impact of the Ethical Code is set to extend globally through various initiatives. The University of Cambridge has committed to incorporating the Ethical Code into its academic programs, with other international universities expected to follow. Furthermore, plans were unveiled for a University of the Forest in the Amazon, co-created with Chief Ninawa Inu Huni Kui. This institution, to be led by Isabella Vieira, will focus on Indigenous wisdom and the protection of the natural world, serving as a living academic center. These efforts aim to embed the principles of the Ethical Code into educational systems worldwide, from primary schools to higher education, fostering leaders who prioritize respect.

Bringing Indigenous voices to the forefront is crucial and long overdue. However, the involvement of affluent institutions like Monaco raises questions about genuine power-sharing versus symbolic gestures without real shifts in power dynamics.

Another vague declaration, where's the actual, enforceable action? Just PR.

The idea of a universal ethical foundation is powerful and necessary, though its implementation across diverse political and economic systems will undoubtedly face significant resistance and require true commitment.

It's encouraging to see ancestral wisdom being recognized on a global stage, but the challenge will be translating these noble intentions into concrete, measurable policy changes.
