Equinor Awards NOK 17 Billion Onshore Plant Agreements to Four Suppliers

Equinor Secures Long-Term Onshore Plant Services

Equinor, a leading energy company, has announced the award of new framework agreements for insulation, scaffolding, and surface treatment (ISS) services at its onshore plants across Norway. These significant contracts, collectively valued at approximately NOK 17 billion (around $1.7 billion USD), aim to ensure safe and efficient operations at critical energy infrastructure. The agreements were signed with a joint venture and three other key suppliers, taking effect on January 1, 2026.

Contract Details and Awarded Companies

The framework agreements have been awarded to the following entities:

  • Beerenberg Services AS / Linjebygg AS (a joint venture)
  • KAEFER Energy AS
  • Bilfinger ISP Offshore Norway AS
  • StS-ISONOR AS
These agreements have a firm duration of four years, with options for two additional two-year extensions, potentially extending the collaboration for up to eight years. The transition from current suppliers will be gradual to ensure operational continuity.

Scope and Impact on Norwegian Onshore Plants

The awarded contracts cover all of Equinor's onshore plants in Norway, which are vital for the landing and industrial processing of oil and gas. These facilities include:

  • Kårstø
  • Mongstad
  • Sture
  • Kollsnes
  • Tjeldbergodden
  • Hammerfest LNG
The services provided under these agreements are considered essential for the safe and efficient functioning of these plants. The contracts are expected to represent more than a thousand full-time equivalents, securing long-term employment opportunities along the Norwegian coast from Stavanger to Hammerfest.

Strategic Importance and Industry Collaboration

Mette Ottøy, Chief Procurement Officer at Equinor, highlighted the strategic importance of these agreements, stating that they 'build on two years of targeted work to improve safety, collaboration, and delivery in close cooperation with the industry.' She added that Equinor 'listened to the industry and built a contract model that gives both Equinor and the suppliers better control and more stable frameworks.' This approach fosters development, investment, competence building, and the adoption of new technology and methods. Christina D. Dreetz, Director of Onshore Plants, emphasized that 'ISS services are essential for safe and efficient operations at the plants' and that these agreements 'provide predictability and security for a large number of skilled workers and lay the foundation for long-term jobs.'

It's positive to see long-term frameworks for suppliers and workers, but the environmental implications of maintaining such extensive oil and gas infrastructure remain a serious concern.

This just extends our reliance on non-renewable sources. Not exactly 'corporate responsibility'.

More profits for big corporations while the planet suffers. Nothing new here.

Equinor's emphasis on safety and collaboration is commendable, yet the article doesn't detail how these investments align with broader decarbonization goals for the future.
