Digital Vignette 2026 Now Available Across Austria
The Digital Vignette 2026 for Austria's motorways and expressways is now available for purchase, having been released on November 4, 2025. This marks an important annual update for motorists, with the new vignette valid from December 1, 2025, until January 31, 2027. The introduction of the 2026 vignette also brings a 2.9 percent price adjustment, in line with the harmonized consumer price index (HCPI).
ASFINAG, the Austrian motorway operator, has confirmed that over 75 percent of all annual vignettes are already purchased digitally, highlighting a growing preference for the electronic format.
Pricing and Validity Periods for 2026
The adjusted prices for the 2026 Digital Vignette are as follows:
- Cars (up to 3.5 tonnes):
- Annual Vignette: €106.80
- 2-Month Vignette: €32.00
- 10-Day Vignette: €12.80
- 1-Day Vignette: €9.60 (digital only)
- Motorcycles:
- Annual Vignette: €42.70
- 2-Month Vignette: €12.80
- 10-Day Vignette: €5.10
- 1-Day Vignette: €3.80 (digital only)
For digital annual and 2-month vignettes purchased online through the ASFINAG toll shop or app, a consumer protection period means validity begins 18 days after purchase. However, 1-day and 10-day digital vignettes are immediately valid even when purchased online.
Purchase Channels and Important Information
Motorists can acquire the Digital Vignette 2026 through various convenient channels. These include the official ASFINAG toll shop online, the ASFINAG app, ASFINAG toll stations, and physical outlets such as ÖAMTC, ARBÖ, ADAC, gas stations, and tobacconists.
ASFINAG advises purchasing the Digital Vignette exclusively through authorized channels to avoid additional fees charged by unauthorized online providers. Authorized online distribution partners include ADAC, Autopay, and Tolltickets.
Transition to Fully Digital System by 2027
The 2026 vignette year will be the last to offer the traditional adhesive vignette, which will be available in a 'fire-red' color from late November. Starting in 2027, Austria will transition entirely to a digital vignette system, making the adhesive version obsolete. This move aims to enhance user-friendliness and streamline the process for millions of drivers.

Embracing a fully digital system is modern and reduces waste. Still, ASFINAG needs to be more proactive in combating the proliferation of unauthorized sellers that prey on consumers.

The convenience of the digital vignette is undeniable for many drivers. However, the price adjustments, even if inflation-linked, might still pinch pockets, especially combined with other rising costs.

It's understandable to adjust prices for inflation, yet these small increases accumulate over time. The growing preference for digital is clear, but accessibility for all users should remain a priority.

While the shift to digital is convenient for most, the 18-day delay for some online purchases feels like an unnecessary restriction for planning trips.
Manolo Noriega
18-day waiting period for online purchases is completely absurd.
