Fare Adjustment Takes Effect in Mexico City
As of November 1, 2025, public transport fares for concessioned services in Mexico City have increased by 1.50 pesos. This adjustment primarily affects microbuses, combis, and buses, raising the minimum fare for these services to 7.50 pesos. The Secretariat of Mobility (Semovi) of Mexico City confirmed the increase, which was the result of extensive negotiations between city authorities and transport concessionaires.
Details of the New Fare Structure
The fare increase applies specifically to 'Route and Corridor transportation' services. The new fare structure is as follows:
- Microbuses and Vagonetas:
- For the first 5 km: 7.50 pesos
- From 5 to 12 km: 8.00 pesos
- More than 12 km: 9.00 pesos
- Buses:
- For the first 12 km: 8.50 pesos
- More than 12 km: 9.50 pesos
- Corridor Services: A single cost of 9.50 pesos
It is important to note that the Metro and Metrobús systems are explicitly excluded from this fare adjustment, with the Metro fare remaining at 5 pesos.
Reasons Behind the Increase and Carrier Commitments
The decision to increase fares followed several working tables and an agreement reached on October 31, 2025, between the Mexico City government and representatives of the Broad Front of Transporters (FAT). Transport operators had advocated for the increase, citing rising operating costs, particularly for fuel, spare parts, and maintenance. Authorities stated that the adjustment aims to improve service quality and address the economic demands of the operators.
In exchange for the fare increase, concessionaires have committed to a series of improvements and compliance measures. These include:
- Displaying the updated fares prominently in their vehicles, terminals, and bases.
- Ensuring drivers carry a valid and visible driver's license.
- Removing tinted windows from units.
- Undergoing periodic inspections of units.
- Requiring drivers to wear uniforms.
- Maintaining unit cleanliness.
- Possessing civil liability insurance.
The agreement was reached after the FAT suspended a planned massive blockade, which would have significantly impacted the city's mobility. The last fare increase for concessioned public transport in Mexico City occurred in June 2022.

Finally, transport operators get the support they need to maintain vehicles. A necessary adjustment!

I understand operators face rising costs, but this increase is significant for daily commuters. We need to see real, tangible improvements quickly to justify it.

Better a small increase now than collapsing public transport later. Good foresight.

It's about time fares reflected the true cost of operating these services. Fuel isn't free.

They promise improvements every time, but nothing changes. Just an excuse to charge more.
