Ljubljana Airport Unveils Expanded Winter Schedule with New Destinations and Increased Connectivity

New Winter Schedule Commences

Ljubljana Jože Pučnik Airport (LJU) has officially launched its winter flight schedule, which took effect on October 26, 2025, and will run until March 28, 2026. This season marks a significant expansion in connectivity, offering travelers a broader range of options from the Slovenian capital. The airport will host 18 scheduled airlines flying to a total of 21 destinations.

Expanded Network with Key New Routes

The winter schedule introduces three notable new direct connections: Las Palmas (Gran Canaria), Manchester, and Barcelona. These additions are expected to enhance both business and leisure travel opportunities.

  • airBaltic will operate flights to Las Palmas, complementing its existing service to Riga.
  • easyJet is introducing a new route to Manchester, adding to its current flights to London Gatwick.
  • Spanish carrier Vueling will launch a new service to Barcelona, establishing a direct link between Slovenia and the vibrant Spanish city.

Other key destinations maintained or enhanced include daily flights to Amsterdam with KLM, up to eighteen times weekly to Istanbul with Turkish Airlines, and twice-daily services to Frankfurt with Lufthansa. Air Dolomiti will operate flights to Munich, replacing Lufthansa on this route.

Increased Frequencies and Passenger Growth

Several airlines are maintaining higher frequencies from the summer season or increasing capacity compared to the previous winter. This includes carriers such as Wizz Air, SWISS Airlines, and Turkish Airlines. The expanded schedule reflects a period of significant growth for Ljubljana Airport. In September, the airport handled over 176,000 passengers, a 13% increase compared to September 2024. Over the first nine months of the year, traffic grew by 8.6%, with more than 1,230,000 passengers recorded. Fraport Slovenija, the airport operator, anticipates exceeding 1.5 million passengers by the end of the year.

Dr. Babett Stapel, Managing Director of Fraport Slovenija, commented on the developments, stating, 'The winter flight schedule at Ljubljana Airport will feature exciting new destinations that we and our passengers are eagerly anticipating – bringing Barcelona, the Canary Islands, and Manchester closer to us. Connectivity will also improve with more frequent flights compared to last year. The increasingly rich flight offering supports significant traffic growth.'

Government Support and Future Outlook

The growth in air connectivity is partly supported by the Slovenian government's ongoing tender calls aimed at improving the country's air links through subsidies for new routes. Early indications for the 2026 summer schedule are also positive, with airlines planning to continue services like Vueling to Barcelona and easyJet to Edinburgh. KLM is also expected to offer an additional daily flight to Amsterdam.

Still no direct flight to major global hubs like New York or Dubai. Needs more.

Having new routes to popular cities is convenient for travelers, yet the long-term sustainability of some of these routes, especially those reliant on government subsidies, remains to be seen.

The environmental impact of all these new flights is a serious concern.

The improved connectivity is excellent for business and tourism, but we must also consider the carbon footprint of increased air travel and explore greener alternatives.

It's exciting to see more airlines choosing Ljubljana, which is a sign of progress. However, I wonder if ticket prices will remain competitive with the increased demand.

So much easier to visit family in the UK now. Great news, easyJet!

More flights, more noise pollution for residents. What about that?

It's certainly great to have more direct options like Las Palmas for holidaymakers, but I hope the airport invests in better public transport links to handle the increased traffic.
