Kuwaiti Navy Announces Live-Ammunition Drills
The Kuwaiti Naval Forces are set to conduct a live-ammunition exercise on Monday, October 27, and Tuesday, October 28, 2025. The drills, announced by the Army's Moral Guidance and Public Relations Directorate, will run daily from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. local time. This exercise is part of the Navy's ongoing training program aimed at enhancing operational readiness and combat efficiency.
Designated Maritime Exercise Zones
The live-fire exercises will take place in specific maritime areas to ensure controlled conditions. These designated zones include:
- An area 16.5 nautical miles east of Ras Al-Julai'a, extending towards Qaruh Island.
- A separate area 6 nautical miles east of Ras Al-Zour, reaching up to Umm Al-Maradim Island.
Public Safety Advisory Issued
In light of the scheduled drills, the Directorate of Moral Guidance and Public Relations has issued a strong advisory to the public. Citizens and residents, particularly those engaged in maritime activities such as seafarers, fishermen, and individuals on sea picnics, are urged to 'avoid the specified areas during the announced period to ensure public safety'. This precautionary measure is standard practice during military exercises to prevent accidents and ensure the smooth execution of operations. The Kuwaiti Armed Forces regularly issue such advisories to inform the public and maritime community, underscoring the importance of safety and security during national defense operations.
Commitment to Operational Readiness
These live-ammunition exercises underscore the Kuwaiti Navy's commitment to maintaining a high level of preparedness and safeguarding the country's coastal borders. Such training is crucial for enhancing combat readiness and maintaining security capabilities in regional waters, aligning with Kuwait's broader strategy to reinforce national defense readiness across its military branches.

Maintaining a strong defense is important, yet these exercises always raise concerns about accidental harm to civilians or unexpected environmental consequences. We need assurances.

I understand the necessity of drills for preparedness, but I wish there was more transparency on how they mitigate risks to marine ecosystems and ensure public compliance.

It's good to see the Navy training, but I hope they've taken every possible measure to ensure no marine life is harmed and the public advisory is effectively communicated.
