Record Backlog Signals Strong Performance
Brazilian aerospace manufacturer Embraer has reported an unprecedented order backlog of $31.3 billion at the close of the third quarter of 2025. This figure represents the largest in the company's history, showcasing robust demand across all its business segments: Commercial Aviation, Executive Aviation, Defense & Security, and Services & Support. The record backlog marks a 5% increase over the second quarter of 2025 and a substantial 38% growth compared to the same period last year.
Commercial Aviation Leads the Surge
The Commercial Aviation division was a primary driver of this record performance, with its backlog reaching $15.2 billion, an eight-year high for the segment. This increase was fueled by significant new orders, including a firm order for 50 E195-E2 jets from Avelo Airlines, with purchase rights for an additional 50 aircraft. Additionally, LATAM Group committed to 24 aircraft with options for 50 more, further bolstering the commercial segment. The E195-E2 aircraft has been a notable contributor to this growth.
Executive and Defense Sectors Demonstrate Robust Growth
Embraer's Executive Aviation segment also experienced substantial growth, closing the quarter with a backlog of $7.3 billion, a 65% increase year-over-year. This division celebrated the delivery of its 2,000th business jet, a Praetor 500, during the quarter. A significant order from fractional ownership company Flexjet for 182 aircraft with 30 options further validated Embraer's business jet offerings. The Defense & Security unit reported a backlog of $3.9 billion, an 8% increase from the previous year. Key deliveries included the KC-390 Millennium to the Portuguese Air Force and contracts for A-29 Super Tucano aircraft, such as four units for Panama and one for SNC in the United States.
Services and Deliveries Underpin Success
The Services & Support division maintained a strong performance, achieving a record backlog of $4.9 billion, reflecting a 40% increase year-over-year. This segment is increasingly emphasized as a source of revenue growth and is integral to several contracts signed in 2025. In terms of deliveries, Embraer delivered a total of 62 aircraft across all business units in Q3 2025, a 5% increase compared to the 59 deliveries in the third quarter of last year. Year-to-date, combined deliveries for Commercial and Executive Aviation reached 148 aircraft, up 16% from the same period in 2024.
Francisco Gomes Neto, Embraer's CEO, has consistently highlighted the growing value of the company's backlog as evidence of its strong product portfolio and growth trajectory, noting that 'more E2 orders are possible this year, as several sales campaigns are still ongoing.'

Focusing on backlog ignores the massive R&D costs for new models. Sustainability is key.

What about supply chain issues? Can they truly deliver on this scale?

One economic downturn and those 'record' orders could vanish. It's too volatile.

The strong performance in Services & Support is a smart move, diversifying revenue streams beyond just new aircraft sales. Still, the overall economic climate and potential for order deferrals mean cautious optimism is warranted, despite the impressive figures.
