Fatal Attack in Milan's Bruzzano Neighborhood
Luciana Ronchi, a 62-year-old woman, tragically died on Wednesday, October 22, 2025, after being brutally stabbed by her ex-husband in the Bruzzano neighborhood of northern Milan. The incident occurred in the morning on Via Giuseppina Grassini, where Ronchi was ambushed by Luigi Morcaldi, 64, who then fled the scene.
According to initial reports, Morcaldi waited for Ronchi outside her home. He allegedly approached her while wearing a helmet to conceal his identity and attacked her with a knife. Ronchi sustained multiple stab wounds to her face, neck, abdomen, chest, shoulders, legs, and arms, including a severe lesion to her jugular vein. She attempted to escape but collapsed between two parked cars. Emergency services transported her in critical condition to Niguarda Hospital, where she underwent extensive surgery. Despite efforts by medical staff, she succumbed to her injuries hours later.
Manhunt and Arrest of Ex-Husband
Following the attack, Luigi Morcaldi fled the scene on a scooter, prompting a widespread search by the Polizia Locale. Investigators quickly focused on Morcaldi as the primary suspect. Authorities located his car and subsequently tracked his mobile phone after he briefly reactivated it, leading to his apprehension. Morcaldi was found and arrested in Parco Nord, an area not far from the crime scene. The weapon used in the attack, a knife, was later discovered in a trash can within the park.
Motive and Legal Proceedings
The couple had been separated for approximately three years, since 2022. Investigations suggest that the motive behind the fatal stabbing may stem from ongoing economic disputes between the ex-spouses. Neighbors reported that Morcaldi had been seen loitering near Ronchi's home for about a month prior to the incident. While no formal complaints had been filed by Ronchi, police had intervened in a family dispute involving the couple in 2022. Upon his arrest, Morcaldi reportedly stated, 'Datemi l'ergastolo' ('Give me a life sentence'), and during interrogation, he was quoted saying, 'Sono un assassino... è stato un momento, l'ho vista e...non so spiegare perché l'ho fatto' ('I am a murderer... it was a moment, I saw her and... I can't explain why I did it'). He also allegedly shouted 'La casa è la mia' ('The house is mine') during the assault. Morcaldi is now facing charges of aggravated homicide.

Economic disputes are no excuse for such brutality.
Comandante
His statements about not knowing why he did it are chilling, but they also underscore the dangerous mindset of perpetrators. This isn't a 'moment of madness' but often a culmination of possessiveness.
Bella Ciao
He stalked her for a month. Where were the authorities?
