Marriott's Autograph Collection Enters Maldives Market
Marriott International's Autograph Collection brand is poised to make its debut in the Maldives, as Raffles Maldives Meradhoo undergoes a significant rebranding to become The Halcyon Private Isles Maldives, Autograph Collection. This strategic move, effective November 1, 2025, marks a new chapter for the luxury resort, bringing it under Marriott's extensive global umbrella. The resort will cease operations under the 'Raffles Hotels & Resorts' brand on October 31, 2025, with operations continuing without interruption during the transition period.
A New Identity for a Secluded Retreat
The rebranding is a collaboration between Marriott International and CDL Hospitality Trusts (CDLHT), the owner of the property. The resort, located in the picturesque Gaafu Alifu Atoll, will operate under a new franchise agreement with Marriott International. Vincent Yeo, CEO of the manager of H-REIT and HBT, expressed enthusiasm for the change, stating, 'We are excited with the new identity of the Resort, which will cater to the discerning needs of a very special type of customer longing for a truly private experience, while leveraging Marriott's global platform.'
Exclusive Features of The Halcyon Private Isles Maldives
The Halcyon Private Isles Maldives is an ultra-exclusive retreat featuring 38 villas, each starting from 220 square meters. The property spans two private islands, one dedicated to elegant overwater villas and the other to tranquil beachfront villas. Designed for the modern traveler, the resort aims to blend contemporary luxury with authentic Maldivian island traditions in a setting that offers a high degree of privacy. Guests will have access to:
- Five distinctive restaurants and bars
- A serene spa sanctuary
- Access to the Marriott Bonvoy loyalty program
- Marriott's global distribution channels and strategic partnerships
Marriott International's Expanding Footprint
This debut signifies Marriott International's continued expansion in key leisure markets. Gautam Bhandari, Senior Vice President, Hotel Development & Operations for Singapore & Maldives at Marriott International, commented, 'We are pleased to collaborate with CDL Hospitality Trusts through this strategic conversion. As demand continues to grow for distinctive and high-quality stays, we remain focused on expanding our footprint in key destinations.' The Autograph Collection, known for its tagline 'Exactly Like Nothing Else,' emphasizes the unique character and local authenticity of each property while providing the benefits of Marriott's global systems and standards.

The promise of 'Exactly Like Nothing Else' under the Autograph Collection is appealing, but it's often challenging for large chains to genuinely deliver a truly bespoke experience while maintaining corporate standards across all properties.

This corporate takeover will just drive up prices for the elite, ignoring the local impact of mass tourism.
