Tragic End to Three-Month Ordeal
Nadia Khaidar, a 50-year-old Moroccan citizen, has tragically died in Bologna after enduring nearly three months of agony following a brutal attack by her ex-partner. Her death, reported on October 19, 2025, has led to the charge against her former companion, Redouane Ennakhali, 44, being upgraded from attempted murder to murder.
Details of the Violent Assault
The horrific incident occurred on July 27, 2025, in Bologna's Santa Viola neighborhood. According to reports, Redouane Ennakhali, who was already known to law enforcement, first rammed Nadia Khaidar's car. The aggression then escalated inside her apartment, where she lived with her cousin and nephew. Ennakhali subjected her to a violent assault involving kicks, punches, and stabbings, leaving her with severe injuries. Sources indicate that Nadia, who worked as a cleaner in a central Bologna hotel, had ended her relationship with Ennakhali, a decision he reportedly refused to accept, leading to the violent outburst.
A Battle for Life
Following the attack, Nadia Khaidar was rushed to Maggiore Hospital in critical condition, where she remained in intensive care for weeks. Despite the efforts of medical staff, her condition never improved, and she was later transferred to another healthcare facility in Santa Viola. She never regained consciousness during her nearly three-month struggle for survival.
Legal Ramifications
Redouane Ennakhali was arrested shortly after the attack, thanks to neighbors who alerted authorities to the commotion. Initially charged with attempted murder, the severity of the charges against him has now been elevated to murder (omicidio volontario) following Nadia Khaidar's death. The investigation into this case is being conducted by the Carabinieri of the Radiomobile, under the coordination of Public Prosecutor Domenico Ambrosino.

Such a tragic loss. May she rest in peace, and may her killer pay.

It's crucial that her attacker faces the full force of the law, but this tragedy also highlights the desperate need for more robust support systems for victims trying to leave abusive relationships.

The immediate arrest thanks to neighbors is commendable, yet the fact she endured three months of suffering shows how critical early intervention and comprehensive protection orders are.

While the focus is rightly on seeking justice for Nadia, we must also seriously examine why these warning signs are so often missed or ignored until it's too late.
