Marigot Prepares for Major Braderie Event
Marigot, the vibrant capital of the French side of Saint Martin, is gearing up to host its highly anticipated semi-annual Braderie Market this weekend, October 11-12, 2025. The event is expected to feature approximately 96 stands, transforming the town center into a bustling hub of commerce and community activity.
Organized by the Association des commerçants et restaurateurs de Marigot (AEC), the market aims to provide an opportunity for local businesses to clear inventory and for residents to find bargains.
Event Details and Location
The main activities of the braderie are scheduled for Saturday, October 11th, from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM. The market will primarily take over Rue du Général de Gaulle and Rue Kennedy, which will be pedestrianized for the occasion to ensure a pleasant shopping experience. According to Yann Lecam, president of the AEC, the event has garnered significant interest, with nearly a hundred stands confirmed.
While Saturday marks the primary day for the braderie, some participating merchants may begin offering special deals as early as Friday, October 10th.
Diverse Offerings and High Demand for Stands
The 96 stands will showcase a diverse range of products. Approximately 40 stands have been reserved by professional businesses, while the remaining spaces will be occupied by island residents looking to sell items from their homes. The market will also include around ten food stands, adding to the festive atmosphere with local culinary delights.
The popularity of the Marigot Braderie is evident in the high demand for vendor spots, with 20 individuals reportedly on a waiting list since April to secure a place. This highlights the event's significance for both vendors and shoppers in the community.
A Community Tradition
The Marigot Braderie Market is a cherished tradition, known for its lively ambiance and the opportunity it provides for both economic activity and social interaction. Beyond the sales, the market contributes to the vibrant local atmosphere that characterizes Marigot, a town celebrated for its daily market featuring fresh produce, spices, and local crafts. The semi-annual event serves as a key moment for community engagement and supports the local economy.

The idea of clearing inventory and finding bargains is appealing to many. However, some find that the prices aren't always as discounted as advertised, making it feel more like a regular shopping day with added crowds.
