Tragic Blaze Engulfs Amsterdam Apartment Building

A devastating fire broke out on Monday evening, October 6, 2025, in an apartment building located in Amsterdam Nieuw-West, specifically the Westereind flat on Harry Koningsbergerstraat in Slotermeer. The incident tragically claimed the life of one individual, whose identity has not yet been released. The extensive damage caused by the fire has left approximately 100 residents displaced, as their homes have been declared temporarily uninhabitable.,

Emergency Response and Casualties

The fire, which reportedly started around 7 PM on the third floor of the complex, prompted a significant emergency response. Firefighters battled the blaze, and in the process, smashed several windows due to the heavy smoke.,

In addition to the single fatality, two people suffered from smoke inhalation but did not require hospital treatment. Among the emergency personnel, three firefighters were checked by medical staff, with one subsequently taken to the hospital. Furthermore, four residents received on-site medical checks from ambulance personnel.,

Displacement and Ongoing Investigation

All residents of the approximately 100 apartments were evacuated from the building. Those unable to stay with family or friends have been provided with temporary accommodation in hotels. Initially, evacuated residents were sheltered at a nearby football club.,
