MOCA Launches Internal Probe into Ancón Representative
The Movimiento Otro Camino (MOCA) party in Panama has announced the initiation of an internal investigation against Yamireth Batista, the representative for the corregimiento of Ancón. This decision, made during a meeting of the National Expanded Board of Directors and the National Political Committee on Monday, September 29, stems from numerous complaints lodged by residents of various communities within Ancón.
Complaints Drive Investigation's Genesis
The investigation was formally requested by MOCA's Fiscal of Ethics, Transparency, Honor, and Discipline. It is a direct response to 'differences and facts denounced, privately and publicly, by residents' concerning Batista's conduct. Community sectors have reportedly questioned her 'management style and relationship with the population' in recent weeks.
MOCA has affirmed that the investigative process will strictly adhere to its Code of Ethics. The party committed to respecting due process and ensuring 'impartiality, objectivity and transparency,' in addition to complying with its statutes and the laws of the Republic of Panama.
Party Emphasizes Public Service Principles
In a statement issued by MOCA, the party took the opportunity to remind Representative Batista of the core tenets of public service. The communication highlighted that 'a true public servant must have the capacity to listen with respect to all sectors of the community, promote constructive dialogue and promote consensus.' MOCA further stressed that a public servant's role demands 'a firm commitment to accountability, transparency in management and citizen participation as a central axis of democratic life.'
The party reiterated its commitment to 'always work alongside the citizenry, defending their rights, guaranteeing their voice and promoting authorities that understand that governing means serving, not confronting.' This internal inquiry follows a period where Batista, who assumed office under the MOCA banner, had herself made denunciations regarding the previous administration of the Ancón communal board, citing issues such as missing vehicles and destruction of digital information.

So easy for parties to just 'investigate' inconvenient representatives.

It's commendable that MOCA emphasizes ethics and transparency for public servants, but the article provides no specifics on the complaints. Without more details, it's hard to discern the true gravity of the situation.
