Slovenia Commences International Military Exercise Triglav Star 2025 in Gorenjska Region

International Forces Gather for Mountain Warfare Training

The international military exercise Triglav Star 2025 officially commenced on September 23, 2025, in Slovenia's picturesque Gorenjska region. This significant multinational training event brings together approximately 300 members of the Slovenian Armed Forces and up to 200 personnel from allied nations, alongside representatives from NATO's Mountain Warfare Center of Excellence. The exercise is scheduled to conclude on Friday, October 10, 2025.

Participating allied forces include military personnel from:

The primary objective of Triglav Star 2025 is to facilitate the exchange of knowledge, unify tactical procedures, and enhance interoperability among the participating forces.

Phased Training Across Diverse Terrain

The exercise is structured into distinct phases, each focusing on specific aspects of mountain warfare and tactical operations. The initial training phase is set to run from Saturday, September 27, to Friday, October 3, around Bohinjska Bela. This period will concentrate on individual mountain warfare skills and collective tasks for small tactical units, utilizing live maneuver ammunition.

A subsequent, more extensive battalion-level tactical exercise will take place from Sunday, October 5, to Wednesday, October 8. This phase will be conducted in the Jelovica and Ratitovec areas, incorporating live maneuver ammunition, pyrotechnics, and air support from the Slovenian Armed Forces.

Throughout the exercise, participants will test the tactical operations of the 132nd Mountain Battalion of the 1st Brigade in various terrains and under changing weather conditions, both day and night. A key focus will be on coordination with allied forces.

Operational Readiness and Environmental Considerations

The Slovenian Armed Forces emphasize that these exercises are crucial for maintaining their operational readiness and ability to defend the country's interests. The training involves the use of live ammunition and pyrotechnics, and measures are in place to address potential impacts. Landowners whose property is utilized for these activities will receive compensation.

Furthermore, all environmental guidelines issued by the Slovenian Nature Protection Institute are being strictly observed. Upon completion of the exercise, efforts will be made to restore the terrain and minimize any environmental and noise impact. While movements of military units and vehicles may temporarily increase traffic in the area, authorities anticipate no disruption to general traffic flow.
