Trichy City Police have initiated legal action against members of the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) following a vehicle rally near the MGR statue in Marakkadai on September 13th. The cases stem from alleged violations of pre-approved conditions and damage to both public and private property.
Three separate cases have been filed at the Cantonment, Gandhi Market, and Srirangam police stations. The Cantonment case specifically names TVK district president Karikalan and four other party officials. The remaining two cases involve unidentified individuals. No arrests have been made in connection with the incidents.
Authorities stated that the cases were filed due to breaches of police-imposed conditions, damage to property, and violations of regulations governing campaign activities. The police have clarified that neither TVK chief Vijay nor general secretary Bussy Anand are named as accused in any of the cases.
The TVK chief, Vijay, commenced his statewide campaign in Tiruchirappalli on Saturday. During his address, he criticized the ruling DMK party, focusing on unfulfilled promises made in their 2021 election manifesto.
Vijay began his speech by referencing tradition, drawing a parallel between seeking blessings before battle and his desire to connect with the public before the electoral campaign. He also highlighted the historical and political importance of Trichy, mentioning its significance in the careers of former Chief Ministers CN Annadurai and MG Ramachandran.
Vijay then turned his attention to the DMK government's 2021 election manifesto, questioning the implementation of various promises. He specifically inquired about the status of several pledges, including reductions in diesel prices, changes to electricity bill calculations, student loan waivers, job reservations for women, the restoration of the old pension scheme, and the filling of government vacancies.

The government is afraid of Vijay and the TVK. This is a classic move.

Good to see the police working, regardless of other factors. Good job.

Using the police to shut down a rally? Disgusting display of power.

The police have a duty to investigate complaints of property damage, regardless of the party.
