During the Bengals’ game against the Jacksonville Jaguars, quarterback Joe Burrow was forced to leave the game due to a left toe injury he acquired in the first half. The injury occurred in the second quarter when Burrow was sacked by Jaguars defensive end Arik Armstead while attempting a pass. After going down, Burrow initially tried to get back on his feet but ultimately remained on the field until medical personnel arrived to assist him.
The trainers assessed Burrow's left ankle before he was escorted off the field, limping noticeably as he walked through the stadium's tunnel without a shoe on his left foot. The 28-year-old quarterback, who was the first overall selection in the 2020 NFL Draft, has a history of injuries that have affected his playing time, missing six games in his rookie season due to an ACL tear and seven games in 2023 from a torn wrist ligament.
Throughout his time in the league, the Bengals have struggled to adequately protect Burrow, leading to high sack numbers; he was sacked 48 times last season. Despite these challenges, Burrow had an impressive performance in 2024, throwing for 4,918 yards and 43 touchdowns, ranking first in both categories for the NFL. He also led Cincinnati to the Super Bowl in 2021, making him one of the few quarterbacks, alongside Patrick Mahomes, to represent the AFC in that event since 2019. The Bengals entered Week 2 with a record of 1-0 following their earlier victory against the Cleveland Browns.

How much longer can the Bengals defend Burrow? His performance doesn’t mean much if he can't play.

If he’s limping off again, it might be time to consider who’s on the field physically, not just statistically.

This is just a setback for a player of his talent. He’ll adapt and rise again!

Incredible talent! It’s unfortunate about the injury, but his stats speak for themselves!

He’s proven himself as a leader on and off the field. I’m confident he’ll recover and come back stronger!
