The Animal and Veterinary Service (AVS) announced that approximately 41,000 pet cats have been licensed in Singapore since the Cat Management Framework was introduced a year prior. This initiative is overseen by the AVS, which operates under the National Parks Board.
A significant majority of these licensed cats, around 95 percent, have undergone sterilization. This highlights a key component of the framework's goals.
Furthermore, over 41,500 individuals have successfully completed the mandatory online pet ownership course. This course is a requirement for all first-time applicants seeking a cat license.
The Cat Management Framework mandates that all pet cats must be licensed and microchipped by August 31, 2026. Licensing remains free of charge until this date. After September 1, 2026, owning a pet cat without a license will be considered a violation.

What about feral cats? Will they be rounded up and euthanized? This doesn't solve the root of the problem.

41,000 cats licensed? Seems like a money grab in disguise. Why the need to license all cats?

Bureaucracy will make this a nightmare. The course, the paperwork... just more hassle!

Free licensing until 2026 is a generous gesture. Encourages compliance.

Another instance of government overreach! My cat is a member of the family, not a product to be regulated.

Licensing is a good way to track and protect our feline friends. Important for accountability.
