A tragic incident unfolded in northern Turkey when a groom succumbed to injuries sustained from celebratory gunfire following his wedding. The groom, identified as 23-year-old Ali K, was reportedly wounded as the newlyweds were being escorted home after the ceremony.
The state news agency Anadolu reported that the gunfire allegedly came from a female relative of the groom's wife. Authorities promptly detained the woman, and two unlicensed pistols were discovered in her garden. Prosecutors have initiated an investigation into the event, which occurred in Şebinkarahisar, a town located in Giresun province.
Celebratory gunfire is a frequent occurrence at weddings in Turkey's northern Black Sea region. Sadly, this is not an isolated incident.
Last week, another man lost his life, and two others were injured due to celebratory gunfire before a wedding in the northeastern Trabzon province. The wedding was subsequently cancelled, and two individuals were taken into custody, including a police officer.

Tragic. This should serve as a harsh lesson. No celebration is worth this.
