Heavy rainfall in Fukuoka Prefecture on Sunday resulted in the disappearance of a man and a woman, along with a minor injury to a young girl. The incidents occurred amidst severe weather conditions.
Emergency services received a call at 5:30 p.m. in Fukutsu, reporting that a man and a woman, both in their 60s, had been swept away by a river. Search and rescue operations are ongoing, with police and fire department personnel actively involved in the search for the missing individuals.
In a separate incident in Munakata, a high school girl fell into an irrigation channel. She was carried by the water for over 700 meters before managing to escape on her own. The girl sustained a minor head injury.
The Japan Meteorological Agency reported that over 550 millimeters of rain had fallen on Munakata since the heavy rain began on Saturday. The agency anticipates the rain will persist in Fukuoka Prefecture until Tuesday at noon. Authorities are urging residents to remain vigilant and take precautions against potential landslides and flooding.

It’s shocking that people in their 60s were allowed near a dangerous river in such weather!

Great job on the emergency response, but it raises questions about why this was permitted to happen in the first place.

I feel sorry for the victims, but it’s hard to believe they didn’t realize the dangers.

How did a schoolgirl even get near an irrigation channel during such heavy rainfall? Isn’t there awareness training?

At least the girl survived! It’s incredible that she managed to escape on her own.
