As of Monday afternoon, China has achieved a significant milestone at the World Games 2025 in Chengdu. The nation has already amassed 13 gold medals, surpassing its previous record of nine. In addition to the gold medals, China has also earned three silver and one bronze medal. The victories have come from a variety of sports, including underwater disciplines, muaythai, and trampoline events. With a substantial portion of the competition still underway, the medal count is expected to increase further.
The initial day of competition saw China demonstrate exceptional performance in para freediving. Long Dengxi secured a gold medal in the men's dynamic no-fins event. Huang Shiyu also claimed a gold medal in the women's dynamic with-fins competition.
In the women's 4x100m finswimming surface relay, the Chinese team, consisting of Shu Chengjing, Xu Yichuan, Xie Wenmin, and Hu Yaoyao, delivered a dramatic comeback in the final leg. They overtook the leading Colombian team to successfully defend their title, finishing with a time of 2:36.06.
Despite challenging weather conditions, the waterski and wakeboard events concluded with notable results for China. Xu Lu earned a gold medal in the women's wakeboard freestyle, while Zhuang Tiancai secured a silver medal in the men's wakesurf skim.
In the sport of Muaythai, China secured two of the six available titles. Liu Xiaohui won gold in the women's 48kg event, defeating Thailand's Kullanat Aonok. Han Xin claimed the women's 60kg title after a close match against Turkey's Kubra Kocakus.
Chinese Olympic champion Hu Yicheng and Asian champion Zhang Xinxin narrowly defeated a Japanese pair to win gold in the women's synchronised trampoline. Their score of 51.340 secured the victory by a narrow margin.
With the competition continuing, an additional 24 gold medals are available to be won at the World Games 2025 on Monday.
