Paul Mario Day, the original vocalist for the iconic British heavy metal band Iron Maiden, has passed away at the age of 69. The band confirmed his death and shared a touching tribute on social media, expressing their deep sadness and offering condolences to his family and friends. The cause of his death has not been revealed.
Iron Maiden's social media post included a photograph of the band, both in their more recent years and from their early days. Fans responded with heartfelt comments, expressing their condolences and remembering Day's contributions to the band.
Day joined Iron Maiden in December 1975, at the age of 19, recruited by bassist Steve Harris. He served as the band's original frontman until October 1976. Iron Maiden's debut self-titled album was released in 1980. Following his time with Iron Maiden, Day formed the band More.
More also paid tribute to Day, acknowledging his significant role in the New Wave of British Heavy Metal (NWOBHM) scene, particularly his work on the "Warhead" album. They remembered him as a beloved figure in British rock music, highlighting his memorable performances, including the 1981 Monsters of Rock show.
Day later performed as the lead singer for Wildfire in 1985 and joined a reformed version of Sweet. In the following year, he moved to Australia, where he remained active in the music scene until his passing. He is survived by his wife, Cecily.
Day's death follows the passing of former Iron Maiden singer Paul Di'Anno last year. Di'Anno, who was 66, was the vocalist for Iron Maiden's first two albums.

I don't understand the tribute hype. He wasn't even part of the band during its heyday, and honestly, most fans don’t even remember him.

His legacy extends beyond Iron Maiden into the broader heavy metal genre. He will always be remembered!
