The Spanish champions, Barcelona women's team, are scheduled to compete against the best players from Liga MX Femenil in the first-ever 'Duelo de Estrellas' (All-Star Game). The Mexican league made the announcement on Monday.
The exhibition match is planned for August 22nd at Estadio Universitario, located in Monterrey, the capital of Nuevo Leon, a northern state in Mexico. The game will pit players from all 18 Liga MX Femenil teams against the three-time Women's Champions League winners.
The league emphasized the significance of the event, stating that the 'Duel of the Stars' is a crucial milestone in the development of Liga MX Femenil. The event aims to highlight the talent of the players and acknowledge their influence both on and off the field. It is also designed to enhance the connection between fans and the league's stars.
The players for the All-Star Game have been chosen based on their season performances, including players like record goal scorer Charlyn Corral, and using an Index Score. Fans will also have a say, with three players selected by them, and two additional "surprise" selections.
Barcelona will also face Club America, the Mexican runners-up, in Mexico City on August 24th. This match is part of their pre-season preparations before their Liga F season opener against Alhama CF on August 31st.

It feels disingenuous to hype this up when the focus should be on improving the local league.

This match won't change the reality of women’s football in Mexico. It’s just a temporary distraction.
