Zayed Alanzi, a 26-year-old migrant from Kuwait, has been sentenced to one year in prison after he was found guilty of assaulting a woman on the streets of Hull. The incident occurred on April 28, when Alanzi approached the victim and persistently harassed her despite her clear refusals to go with him. The woman described feeling "violated" by his actions, which included forcibly kissing her and attempting to engage in inappropriate behavior until she managed to escape.
During the trial, the victim expressed concern for a vulnerable teenager and indicated that she felt compelled to intervene, fearing that Alanzi might target the girl as well. Although Alanzi, who is married, attempted to defend himself by arguing that he was only trying to assist the woman and that she had consented to the kiss, magistrates dismissed his claims. Consequently, they sentenced him to 12 months in prison. In addition, he was added to the sex offenders register and required to pay £187 in costs, with an expectation of serving less than half his sentence.
Following this conviction, there are indications that deportation proceedings against Alanzi may soon be initiated. The case highlights ongoing concerns regarding the housing of asylum seekers in hotels, particularly in urban areas where such incidents can occur. The victim reported that she had firmly indicated her desire to be left alone, indicating the impact of the assault on her emotional well-being.

Justice served, but it's a wake-up call about safety in urban settings.

We need more information about the circumstances. Was there any context we're missing?

We need better security in these hotels, if that's the location.

The fact he's married adds further complexity. Why would he do this?
