Dramatic video footage has surfaced, capturing the moment Russia experienced two significant earthquakes. The first, a powerful 7.4 magnitude tremor, was followed by a 6.7 magnitude quake in the same region. The video shows an apartment being violently shaken, with the ceiling vibrating and the person filming expressing clear distress. The strongest quake struck approximately 90 miles east of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatskiy.
The back-to-back earthquakes triggered a tsunami warning for the Kamchatka Peninsula. The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center issued an alert, forecasting potential waves reaching up to one meter above normal tide levels along some Russian coastlines. This event occurred shortly after Spain was also impacted by an earthquake and a subsequent tsunami warning, affecting British tourists. Initially, a warning was also issued for Hawaii, but it was later canceled after further analysis.
The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center also cautioned that coastal areas of Hawaii and Japan could experience waves around 0.3 meters above normal levels. Authorities urged immediate action from government agencies in at-risk coastal zones, emphasizing the importance of informing and guiding local populations. Russia’s state-run TASS news agency reported that waves up to 60cm could reach the remote Aleutsky District on the Commander Islands. In the Ust-Kamchatsky region of eastern Kamchatka, waves as high as 40cm were expected, while Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky could see waves of around 15cm.
Although seismic measurements can fluctuate after a quake, there were no initial reports of casualties. The tsunami warning was officially lifted at 9:42 PM local time.

90 miles east? That's still close enough to cause massive damage. Thoughts and prayers for everyone in Russia right now.
