Zhu Yuling Triumphs at 2025 WTT U.S. Grand Smash, Inspiring Tianjin University

Zhu Yuling, an associate professor and table tennis coach at Tianjin University, celebrated a significant victory by winning the Women’s Singles final at the 2025 WTT U.S. Grand Smash. She triumphed over fellow competitor Chen Yi with a score of 4-2. Having previously been a world champion, Zhu stepped back from professional play in 2021 and began her academic career at the university in 2023. After her victory, she expressed her joy, stating, "To return to competition feels like a dream come true," and added that she hopes to continue to experience this dream.

Her win has resulted in lively celebrations on the Tianjin University campus, particularly among members of the table tennis team, who regard her not only as a coach but also as a significant role model. Yang Xinyu, a student-athlete, highlighted this sentiment, stating, "She's not just our coach, she's our role model." Zhu has an impressive athletic résumé, holding 10 world titles, 11 Asian championships, and six national championships to her name. Since joining Tianjin University, she has dedicated herself to education, teaching both undergraduates and postgraduates. Additionally, she established the "Yuling Studio" and created sports education programs.

Thanks to her leadership, the university's table tennis team has seen considerable success in national collegiate competitions. Over the last two years, Zhu implemented a comprehensive three-tiered table tennis tournament system, which has transformed the university into a recognized center for the sport, hosting hundreds of matches every year. Zhu articulated her dedication to teaching, saying, "Teaching is a profession that deeply shapes lives," noting that her students inspire her to confront challenges both in sport and on the academic front. Tianjin University has commended Zhu as a representation of its ethos, encapsulated in the phrase "You have infinite possibilities," showcasing her pursuit of excellence in various domains.
