Ontario Premier Doug Ford's Progressive Conservatives and the federal Conservatives, led by Pierre Poilievre, are holding conventions on the same weekend, highlighting a growing distance between the parties. Poilievre faces a leadership review at his Calgary convention from January 29-31, following his failure to win the last election. Ford's party will meet from January 30-February 1.
Ford's campaign manager cited fundraising as the reason for the dates. The federal convention was moved to January due to venue availability. During the campaign, Ford's team criticized Poilievre's strategy. Ford himself was critical of Poilievre's lack of support during the provincial election.
Poilievre and Ford have had a strained relationship. Poilievre also has disagreements with Nova Scotia Premier Tim Houston. Only delegates at the Calgary convention will vote on Poilievre's leadership.

Watching these two go at it is like watching toddlers fight over a toy. Pathetic!

This divide only weakens the Conservative party. We need strong, cohesive leadership, not division and conflict!

At least they’re honest about the challenges they face. A leadership review is a necessary process—let’s see where it leads!

Is anyone else tired of the constant bickering between these two? We need unity in the party, not more division.

The fundraising reason behind the conventions makes sense. They both need resources to fight for their respective constituents.
