Niklas Klingel, a 24-year-old from Germany, was captivated by the automated minibus assembly line at the PIX Moving automotive manufacturing plant. He engaged in a lively discussion about the technology with the person in charge, his excitement evident.
Klingel was a guest at the Eco Forum Global Guiyang 2025, participating in a six-day trip organized by Tsinghua University and Guizhou Province. The event, titled "Opportune China, Youth Talks -- 2025 Global Youth Dialogue," brought together fifteen international youths. They explored Guizhou's advancements in areas like big data, autonomous vehicles, and infrastructure.
Klingel, who is pursuing a Master of Science in Politics and Technology, is transitioning from financial consulting to automotive safety consulting due to the growth of electric vehicles. He was impressed by China's progress in EVs and autonomous driving, particularly their continuous innovation in the latter. He furthered his studies at Tsinghua University in 2023, focusing on consumer behavior and public organization management.
During his visit to the PIX Moving factory, Klingel was particularly interested in the company's advancements in autonomous driving algorithm optimization and sensor fusion. He noted that the innovations in algorithm integration and 3D printing intelligent manufacturing were noteworthy and could benefit German automotive companies.
Klingel believes that the advancements made by Chinese companies in the commercialization of autonomous driving offer valuable insights for traditional automotive powerhouses. He sees this technological complementarity as an opportunity for fostering cooperation between the two countries. He envisions international competition as a catalyst for innovation, creating opportunities for both countries.
He believes that the collaboration between German precision manufacturing and Chinese smart technology ultimately benefits global consumers. He highlighted the potential for collaboration between the Technical University of Munich and Tsinghua University in autonomous vehicles and EV research.
Klingel proposed establishing regular delegation exchange mechanisms, cross-border offices, and technology transfer platforms to integrate Germany's quality management system with China's innovation speed. He expressed his enthusiasm for initiating collaborative discussions between Guizhou's autonomous driving firms and traditional German automotive companies. He anticipates the potential for large-scale commercial deployment of autonomous vehicles from Guizhou in Germany.
