In Japan, a nascent political party named Sanseito is gathering momentum as elections approach, focusing on what they term a 'silent invasion' of immigrants. This party, which originated on YouTube during the COVID-19 pandemic and initially gained attention for spreading conspiracy theories about vaccinations and global elites, is now expanding its platform to resonate with broader concerns in society through its 'Japanese First' campaign.
Despite forecasts suggesting they may win just 10 to 15 of the 125 seats available, Sanseito’s rise poses a threat to Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba's minority government, which is increasingly reliant on opposition support to maintain stability. The party's leader, Sohei Kamiya, notes that discussing immigration was once met with hostility from the left, but their approach has attracted support even amid criticisms. He emphasized that if the ruling Liberal Democratic Party and its partner Komeito wish to retain their backing, they can no longer ignore the immigration issue.

This 'silent invasion' narrative is dangerous and fuels racism. I hope voters see through it.

Anyone spreading conspiracy theories is not trustworthy. This party's roots are rotten.

This party needs to be exposed for what it is. Spreading hate under the guise of 'Japanese First' is unacceptable.

There are a lot of issues to address. Immigration is one of many, finally someone is going to talk about it.

Using 'Japanese First' is a dog whistle. Classic tactic to stir up fear and division. We need to call this out.
