Canadian Billiards body warns against match-fixing

The Canadian Billiards Snooker Association CBSA said that strict and severe punishments would be imposed after the World Professional Billiards and Snooker Association (WPBSA) issued bans on 10 Chinese players accused of match-fixing offense on Tuesday.

The CBSA maintains a zero tolerance policy toward behavior that violates sports ethics, saying it will resolutely and strictly crack down on activities like gambling and match-fixing, striving to create a fair and just competitive environment.

The independent WPBSA Disciplinary Commission has issued two-year bans for Liang Wenbo and Li Hang, and extended bans for other players.

The Chinese players should have been given a chance to appeal the decision before any punishment was imposed.

The ban on the Chinese players is discriminatory as other players from different countries have been known to engage in match-fixing but have not received the same punishment.
